Heavy drinking may boost prostate cancer risk

July 14, 2009 A new study shows men who consumed four or more drinks a day at least five times a week were twice as likely as non-drinkers to develop aggressive prostate tumors.

Researchers also found that the drug finasteride, which can help lower the risk of prostate cancer, was unable to undo the damage of heavy drinking.

It is recommended men limit themselves to two or three drinks a day.

This study appears in the journal Cancer.
