Guards suspended after prison break

July 16, 2009 Three inmates escaped from the prison outside Michigan City Sunday. The guards are accused of failing to properly supervise them. They have been suspended indefinitely.

The prisoners - Lance Battreal, Charles Smith and Mark Booher - had worked in utility tunnels that they used in the escape.

Investigators believe the inmates had unauthorized and unsupervised access to the tunnels recently. There's no indication the guards helped in the escape.

Smith was captured Monday. The other two inmates remain at large.
