Fuel can ooze from tiny holes in old tanks, posing a threat to the groundwater that nearly one-third of Americans use for their source of drinking water from wells.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says the funds will be used for overseeing assessment and cleanup of leaking tanks, and for other related uses. The EPA will enter into a cooperative agreement with Indiana's environmental agency to assess the state's plans for the money.
