Giannoulias to announce Senate run

July 21, 2009 (CHICAGO) The Democrat says he will visit seven Illinois cities next week to launch his campaign for the seat once held by President Barack Obama.

Roland Burris, who was appointed to the vacated seat, decided against running for a full term, citing fundraising problems.

On Monday, five-term congressman Mark Kirk announced he will run for the Republican nomination.

Democrat Dan Seals is hoping to win Kirks' seat in the 10th congressional district. Seals announced his candidacy for the job on Tuesday. This will make the third time he's run for the job.

Seals says he is counting on the name recognition he built in the last two campaigns and his network of volunteers to make this campaign a success.
