A man mistakenly freed from the Cook County Jail is back in custody. Jonathan Cooper used to live in Lansing, Illinois. He's been serving a 30-year sentence in Mississippi for manslaughter.

Cooper was brought to the Chicago area to face charges for failing to register as a sex offender. Those charges were dropped, but because of a paperwork mix up, Cooper was released instead of being sent back to Mississippi.

Sheriff's police say Cooper turned himself in at a family member's house in the Roseland neighborhood.
