Man mistakenly freed from jail turns self in

July 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) Jonathan Cooper used to live in Lansing, Illinois. He's been serving a 30-year sentence in Mississippi for manslaughter.

Cooper was brought to the Chicago area to face charges for failing to register as a sex offender. Those charges were dropped, but because of a paperwork mix up, Cooper was released instead of being sent back to Mississippi.

Sheriff's police say Cooper turned himself in at a family member's house in the Roseland neighborhood.
