Chicago cabbies push for rate increase

July 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) The drivers submitted petitions for an increase to the city clerk Thursday. They want the city council to hold hearings to help determine what the drivers call a fair and reasonable rate increase.

Last week, a gas surcharge for Chicago taxis was dropped because gas prices went below the minimum rate that enables the surcharge.
