Demolition of hospital to begin

July 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) The first backhoes moved in on Thursday and fencing is up.

Crews are pulling up trees on the property.

The city bought the 37 acre site last month for $86 million.

Plans call for knocking down 28 of the 29 buildings on the site. The intention is to re-sell the land to private developers for the construction of the Olympic village if Chicago is awarded the 2016 games.
