Honda is recalling 440,000 vehicles because of a potentially deadly airbag defect. The automaker says airbag inflators in some sedans can rupture causing metal fragments to shoot through the airbag and strike occupants.

The recall includes certain 2001 and 2002 model Accords, 2001 model Civics and some 2002 and 2003 model Acura TL's.

Honda is notifying owners about repairs.
