The federal probe comes amid an internal CPS investigation of its admissions practices at highly competitive schools like Whitney Young and Walter Payton. Entry into the city's magnet schools is supposed to be through randomized lottery. Selective enrollment schools and gifted elementary schools are supposed to be based on merit.
School officials had not commented Saturday evening on the investigation.
