USPS may shut down Chicago area offices

The U.S. Postal Service could close up to 1,000 post offices across the nation as it battles staggering financial problems.Post offices have been struggling with a sharp decline in mail volume as people and businesses switch to e-mail for both personal contact and bill paying. The agency says it's facing a potential loss of $7 billion this fiscal year.

The list of post offices that could close include 25 in Chicago, one in Naperville and four in Gary, Ind.
