Toshiba to produce Blu-ray products

August 10, 2009 The electronics maker originally supported the rival HD DVD format that was abandoned last year.

Now Toshiba says it has applied for membership with the Blu-ray Disc Association and it's planning to make Blu-ray products like disc players and personal computers.

Rivals Sony and Panasonic already make products in the Blu-ray format.
