3 hurt in chain-reaction crash

August 10, 2009 The accident happened on Route 53 just south of I-90 at 4:35 p.m. Monday. All northbound lanes were closed Monday afternoon while police investigated.

Illinois State Police initially reported a death in the accident, but the Cook County Sheriff's Department says there was no fatality Monday.

A semi rear-ended a car, causing a chain-reaction accident where two more cars were hit.

One person was in each of the three cars, and each was transported to a hospital. One victim was transported to Lutheran General in very critical condition. Two others were transported to Northwest Community Hospital.

The semi driver was uninjured.
