Macy's Glamorama Makeovers

August 17, 2009 The 2009 the music-and-fashion gala will benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana. Money raised at the charity event www.macys.com/glamorama will help build the world's largest Ronald McDonald House (www.ronaldhousechicago.org) in Chicago's Streeterville neighborhood. The house is expected to be completed in 2012.

As a surprise for three hard-working Ronald McDonald volunteers, Macy's invited them to attend the fabulous event, and provided makeovers so they all will be red-carpet ready for Friday night's glamorous event. Heather McDonald, Mary Agnes Laguatan and Denny Linahares are not used to being in the spotlight, so the makeovers were a bit overwhelming. They are much more at home working at the Ronald McDonald Houses.

Heather is usually found helping families of young patients in Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and organizing a newsletter for the children's charity. Mary Agnes started as a volunteer for the organization 13 years ago in Cleveland. She recently spearheaded the development of the Ronald McDonald House near Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, which has served more than 200 families since it opened in December in Oak Lawn. For 15 years, Denny has served families and patients from the University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. With his team from Southwest Airlines, he prepares home-cooked meals for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Hyde Park.

The first stop for the makeover was the Joseph Michael's Salon (www.josephmichaels.net/)on North State where they were treated to updated new hairstyles by Megumi Nakama, Vesna Kozomora and Anna Nowobilska. The busy volunteers aren't used to being pampered this way. Then it was off to Macy's flagship store on State where they spent the afternoon choosing glamorous new outfits, worthy of the red carpet. The final stop was the cosmetic counter where the makeup experts from Lancôme provided the finishing touches.

Macy's Glamorama takes place Friday at 8 at the Chicago Theatre. Headlining the entertainment will be Grammy Award winning singer and songwriter Ne-Yo. You can order tickets by calling 630.623.2105 or visiting ronaldhousechicago.org. For more information, visit www.macys.com/glamorama or www.thechicagotheatre.com/events/macys-glamorama-2009.html

MAKEOVER DETAILS

Heather McDonald

  • Clothes - BCBG Max Azria multicolor tunic top belted as the waist ($170); INC International Concepts black leggings ($30).
  • Hair - The stylists at Joseph Michael's Salon, who are doing the hair for Glamorama this year, overall wanted everyone's look to be manageable and representative of their personality. For Heather, they chose a richer auburn tone with more defined blonde highlights. They took a good 4 inches off the back of her hair and then razored the bangs and front layers to softly frame her beautiful face.
  • Make-up - Lancôme National Make-up Artist, Alex Sanchez, who is directing the make-up for Glamorama this year, says it's all about lips, lashes and brows. These three elements can really update a look. Defined brows give structure and lift the eyes; you will notice the attention to detail on Heather's features.
  • Mary Agnes Laguatan

  • Clothes - Jones New York magenta cocktail dress with a double "v" and layers of pleats ($170)
  • Hair - The stylists gave her a softer color with warm brown and honey colored highlights. Opened up her face by taking away the excessive layers of her haircut and finished her look with a texturized bob that gives her a lot of movement.
  • Make-up - Alex used pinks and corals on the lips to compliment the volunteers' new coif. The lipstick adds to MA's personality and gives a pop of color.
  • Denny Linhares

  • Clothes - INC International Concepts white and silver embroidered shirt ($69), grey vest ($59) and Calvin Klein black wool pant ($60)
  • Hair - They used Redken's Camo-color for men - not so much to 'color' Denny's hair, but to blend the grey and keep his look very distinguished and age appropriate then they gave Denny a fresh, crisp classic haircut.

About Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (RMHC®-CNI) is an independent, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, well-being and education of children. There are four Ronald McDonald Houses® in Chicagoland, providing a "home away from home" to keep families of hospitalized children together. At the House, family members can eat, sleep and find the emotional support they need– just blocks from where their child is being treated. This year the charity will provide over 23,000 nights to families offering them care and comfort during their hours of greatest need.

The four Houses include the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) near Advocate Hope Children's Hospital, RMH near Children's Memorial Hospital, RMH near Loyola University Medical Center and RMH near University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital. On most nights, the Houses are at full capacity and the needs of families are constant and very real. To better serve them, the charity has embarked on an initiative to build the largest Ronald McDonald House in the world, right here in Chicago. The 14-story new House will include 86 guest rooms, a rooftop healing deck and a kitchen filled with home-cooked meals and supportive conversation. In addition, the 9 family rooms within Lurie Children's Hospital, will give parents an opportunity to refresh and replenish, just steps away from the NICU.
