Celebs throw support behind Olympic bid

August 18, 2009 They all love Chicago- and support the city's bid for the 2016 Olympics.

Chicago entrepreneur and Olympic supporter Billy Dec rounded up some of his famous friends for online videos about why they support the bid.

"It really is the most incredible city, incredible town, I think, in America," said Hayes. A video of the actor, who is from the Chicago suburbs, talking about the Olympics is available for viewing on Dec's website, AChicagoThing.com.

Dec began releasing the videos on Tuesday morning. He said there are plenty more he'll post, including videos from Dan Akroyd, Andy Roddick, Jeremy Piven, Venus Williams, George Lopez, and David Schwimmer.

The International Olympic Committee will announce the winner of the 2016 Summer Games on October 2 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Other celebrities who have already shown their support include Oprah Winfrey, who attended a dinner when the IOC was in town, and Michael Jordan, who appeared on a PSA for Chicago 2016. President Barack Obama has also done his part, sending a videotaped message to a group in Africa and naming senior adviser Valerie Jarrett to lead White House efforts to bring the bid to Chicago.

Dec is holding a launch party on thursday August 20 at Rockit Bar & Grill River North, 22 West Hubbard, from 7 to 9 p.m. to raise money for "World Sports Chicago," the 2016 Chicago Olympic Committee Legacy program that supports children's sports programs.
