Popcorn, cereals high in anti-oxidants

August 18, 2009 New research from the University of Scranton shows breakfast cereals and popcorn may provide a surprising amount of disease fighting antioxidants.

Polyphenol is one such compound and it's best known for lending disease fighting power to foods like chocolate, wine and coffee. Researchers discovered that many of the whole grains in our diet also contain significant levels of this antioxidant.

Breakfast cereals made with corn or wheat had the highest levels, and among snack foods, popcorn was one of the top leaders.
