Father delivers baby at home

August 18, 2009 (LOMBARD, Ill.) Her dad, Rick Tresselt, delivered the baby girl on Monday morning. The 6 pound, one ounce girl is Tresselt's third with wife, Jennifer Stringer.

"(I) got the operator on the phone and started talking me through it. Police officer showed up. And by that point, the paramedics hadn't arrived but the baby was coming out," said Tresselt.

"I was very impressed because he can't even change a dirty diaper," said Stringer.

Everyone is doing just fine. Mom and baby were taken to the hospital for observation.

A living room delivery is unusual, but what makes this story even more unique is that 18 months ago the couple's second daughter was born in an ambulance on the side of the road. And, the same paramedic was involved in both deliveries.

"I just looked at the house and I go, 'You got to be kidding me!' He looks at me and says, 'You're here again?' I had to shake my head for a second and I realized she had already delivered the baby. I cut the cord and took them out to the ambulance," said Jack Shafer, Lombard paramedic.

Tresselt's name will go on Devin's birth certificate as the deliverer. Read more about the special delivery in Wednesday's edition of "The Daily Herald."
