The suspect is hospitalized in serious condition at Advocate Christ Medical.
"There was an adult male shot. He was treated at a local hospital. Right now our investigators are looking at any evidence that is associated with this shooting," Mark Payne, of the Independent Police Review Authority, said.
The suspect was hit twice by bullets. He is under police guard at the hospital.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the matter.
