Government suing Midwest Generation Power Company

August 28, 2009 (CHICAGO) The government agencies say the Chicago-based company made changes to its coal-fired power plants in Illinois without installing required pollution control equipment.

The lawsuit says the plants are emitting illegal amounts of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and other pollutants.

Midwest Generation owns two plants in Chicago, one near Peoria, one in Waukegan, and two in Will County. The company says it is talking with the federal government to try to reach a settlement.
