Groups pay tribute to John Baptiste DuSable

August 28, 2009 The DuSable Coalition and several other groups marked the anniversary of the DuSable's death as they do every year.

Their hope is that it will soon be an official city holiday. They also are working to put up a commemorative statue near the location of DuSable's settlement where the Chicago River meets Lake Michigan.

The event also honored Bessie Neal, the president of the DuSable League, the oldest group working to honor the city's founder.
