Chicagoan beats No. 1 competitive eater

September 3, 2009 (SPARKS, Nev.) Bertoletti, of Chicago, beat Joey Chestnut on Wednesday by eating 5.8 pounds of ribs in 12 minutes. Chestnut lost by one-tenth of a pound.

The contest was the fourth annual in Sparks, Nevada. Twelve people competed.

Chestnut, of San Jose, Calif., is ranked No. 1 in the International Federation of Competitive Eating. Bertoletti is ranked No. 2.

Bertoletti had not eaten since Tuesday. He won $2,500 and a trophy.
