ABC7 Chicago to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

In addition, ABC7's Stacey Baca, John Garcia, Theresa Gutierrez, Sylvia Perez and Roz Varon will host Hispanic Heritage Month vignettes highlighting behind-the-scenes Latinos who are making their mark in the city.

ABC7 kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month when Host Theresa Gutierrez brings viewers all the pageantry of the "26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade" in HD, Sunday, Sept. 13 at 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. ABC7 Chicago's Roz Varon, John Garcia, Michelle Gallardo and Michelle Allegria will join in the festivities as they ride atop the ABC7 float. Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, ABC7 News' Theresa Gutierrez will feature special reports spotlighting the Latino community.

From Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, ABC 7 will air specially produced Hispanic Heritage Month vignettes. This year's vignettes will feature Latinos working behind the scenes in local sports, cultural institutions and at City Hall including Veronica Resa, media relations specialist for the Mayor's Office of Special Events; Lou Hernandez, director of public relations for the Chicago White Sox; and Henry Godinez, resident artistic associate of the Goodman Theater.

Hosted by Theresa Gutierrez, with contributions by ABC7's John Garcia and Stacey Baca, "N Beat" will focus on the explosion of Latino culture in mainstream America. "N Beat: In the Limelight" will air Saturday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. with an encore presentation on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 1:30 p.m. "N Beat" is an Emmy Award-winning program celebrating the accomplishments of Chicago's Latino community.

This edition of "N Beat" takes a close-up look at how the Latino experience is melding into the fabric of American culture. Today, Latino artists in Chicago and across the country are gaining momentum and reaching new audiences. "N Beat" interviews Nativad Cano, the celebrated leader of the Mariachi Camperos. Cano was responsible for bringing the Mariachi sound to Linda Ronstadt fans. His Mariachi sound is featured on Ronstandt's album "Canciones De Mi Padre," or "Songs of My Father."

The tango combines romance with precision dance steps. Each year, Netza Roldan, President of the American Tango Institute here in Chicago, produces a celebration of Argentinean Tango. "Argentina Tango on Stage" shines a white hot spotlight on a variety of performers and musicians considered the best in Chicago and Argentina.

Finally, Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator of the Tony Award-winning "In the Heights" talks about his vision to share the "New Yorican" experience with theatre audiences. "In the Heights" launches a national tour and is scheduled to premiere in Chicago on Dec. 15.
