North suburb bans video gambling

September 14, 2009 (EVANSTON, Ill.) The city council voted unanimously to approve the ban.

Governor Quinn signed legislation in July legalizing video poker. The state plans to use the revenue to pay for a $31 billion public works program.

But Evanston mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl says the social consequences could be devastating.

The DuPage County board has already banned video poker in unincorporated areas. The suburbs of Country Club Hills and Rosemont have also passed bans.
