$5K reward offered in teen's death

September 21, 2009 (CHICAGO) On Monday, Simeon High School students remembered the classmate who is the latest Chicago Public School student to fall victim to gun violence.

Corey McClaurin, 17, was shot and killed over the weekend. The high school senior was sitting in his car at the corner of 81st and Green when some one jumped out of a dark minivan and shot him.

Family and friends say McClaurin stayed out of trouble and was not involved in gangs. a Chicago public schools representative says he was a role model student.

"Great student. Teachers say he's a well-respected, well-mannered young man. Was loved by the students and the faculty and it's another tragic loss that we lost another Chicago Public Schools student," said Renaldo Kyles, project manger, Chicago Public Schools.

A crisis response team was on hand at Simeon on Monday to offer grief counseling to students and faculty.

McClaurin was looking forward to going to college and dreamed of becoming a music producer.
