Investigators say the man in the vehicle pointed a gun at officers as they approached the car. That's when officers opened fire.
The man's injuries are not life threatening.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.

Uniformed officers were responding to a call of shots fired around 1:30 Wednesday morning near Trumbull and Ogden.
Officers spotted a vehicle leaving that area at a high rate of speed.
