Lower heating bills expected this winter

October 6, 2009 A forecast for a milder winter, along with lower fuel costs, should cut average residential heating bills by 8 percent from last year.

People who heat their homes with natural gas should see their lowest bills in five years.

According to the Energy Information Administration, they should save about $105 compared with last year.

Smaller savings of $20 to $60 are forecast for people with electric heat.

The greatest savings are expected for customers who use propane.
