Illinois high school superintendent found dead

October 12, 2009 (OTTAWA, Ill.) The LaSalle County sheriff's office says John Harrison died at his Dayton Township home of an apparent suicide Sunday.

The 41-year-old superintendent was in charge of Ottawa Township High School, where teachers went on strike Sept. 30.

School Board President George Hupp says Harrison was superintendent for only two years and will be missed. Hupp adds that Principal Matt Winchester has a superintendent's certificate, so the school board won't be forced to find a replacement for Harrison while it's also still trying to end the strike.

About 1,600 students attend the school.
