Abuse linked to other health issues

October 12, 2009 A new study finds abused women suffer from more health problems than non-abused women.

According to research in the Archives of Internal Medicine, abused women were six times more likely to be diagnosed with substance abuse.

They were also more than three times as likely to be clinically depressed and three times as likely to have a sexually transmitted disease.

Many women do not bring up the abuse to their doctors.

Researchers are recommending physicians play close attention to patients who complain of depression, addiction, STDs or cuts and bruises.
