NIU police chief suspended

October 16, 2009 (DEKALB, Ill.) The suspension is a result of an investigation into allegations first raised in a student newspaper.

Donald Grady received national attention following the 2008 campus shooting that left five students and the gunman dead.

In an editorial, Grady was accused of calling the newspaper's editor to discuss the paper's coverage of another officer's alleged misconduct. Grady allegedly presented the possibility of a post-graduate job for the editor if a retraction was printed.

A university spokesperson says a four-person panel will review Grady's performance.
