October 17, 2009 (CHICAGO) --
After a devastating fire, Chicago's Chinese American museum is about to reopen. There was a ribbon cutting and preview of what's to come Saturday. In September 2008, a fire damaged the building and destroyed a number of artifacts. The reconstruction should be complete by the end of the year. A number of improvements have been made, including the addition of a sprinkler system.
The exterior also is being restored to how it looked when the building was constructed in 1896.
