About 30 minutes later, police found him near 130th and Torrence in Chicago with several gunshot wounds.
Investigators suspect his body was dumped there after the shooting.
"Witnesses and a Chicago police officer told us the victim said he knew who shot him and he was kidnapped from Calumet City," said Chief Edward Gilmore, Calumet City police.
"I sat here and I thought about what did Derrick do to hurt anybody intentionally…I can't think of one thing," said Charlayne Ridgeway, victim's aunt.
Relatives say Edwards bought the grey 2006 Range Rover after he recently graduated from Michigan State University.
Police say they are now looking for his SUV.
