CPS welcomes 'principals for a day'

October 29, 2009 (CHICAGO) More than 1,400 volunteers took part this year.

Among them was Mayor Daley who was at Orr Academy High School.

The mayor toured classrooms and talked with teachers and students. He was also treated to a performance by the choir and sampled dishes by the culinary students.

The program started more than a decade ago as part of an effort to encourage people and businesses to adopt and support local schools.

"I think that's what we have to have more of, is giving back and believing in all of our children. in all the progress that we make, is a progress not only for our city but for our nation and for the world," said Daley.

The mayor is urging everyone to get involved in local schools.
