CPD beefs up presence for Halloween

October 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) The CPD's Grand Crossing District was transformed into a haunted station for children in the community to celebrate this Halloween weekend. Officers are encouraging parents to take their children to events like the haunted station and go trick-or-treating during the day.

Safety tips include:

  • parents should accompany children; go trick or treating during the daylight hours
  • wear light colored costumes and makeup instead of masks
  • inspect all food before it is eaten
  • avoid abandoned buildings

The Chicago Police Department plans extra patrols over the weekend, also.

Looking out for the children and making sure they are out in a safe manner and making sure there is no party that is out of control that can lead to disturbances between the neighbors or any gang conflicts that may arise with parties," said Asst. Supt. James Jackson, Chicago Police Dept.
