Study suggests: Eat slowly!

If you're just looking to maintain healthy eating habits, your mother's advice to slow down at mealtime may impact more than just table manners. Shoveling down your food may block the body's natural appetite control process. Researchers had 17 men eat two generous portions of ice cream. When the men ate slowly, their bodies showed higher levels of hormones that act as a "fullness" signal to the brain, curbing appetite and calorie intake.

The findings will be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. They back up the conventional wisdom that people should savor their food.
