Woman shot to death at school bus stop

November 10, 2009 (MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.) The victim was getting out of the car with her children around 8 a.m. as the school bus- which had 14 students onboard- approached. She was shot in the chest by the suspect, police said, and a man inside her car was also wounded.

"Just second after the shooting the bus pulled up to pick up the two young girls and I don't believe (the driver) saw the shooting, but called 911 right away," said Sheriff Michael Mollenhauer, LaPorte County, Ind.

The woman died at the scene. The suspect, identified as her ex-boyfriend, was found dead in his car blocks away. He died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

School officials said there were K-5th graders from Springfield Elementary were on the bus. The children were taken to school where they were met with counselors and school officials.

The victim's children are now with their grandparents.
