Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan warned consumers to be cautious of Internet sales pitches for products that claim to prevent or cure the H1N1 flu virus. Madigan urges consumers to restrict flu product purchases to FDA approved products.

Flu products should only be used after first consulting with a doctor.

Madigan says online fraud related to the swine flu virus is on the rise.

The FDA says it recently tested at least five products marketed as Tamiflu, which is used to help prevent and fight the flu, on the internet. One contained none of Tamiflu's active ingredients to fight the flu. The others had varying levels of the drug that were not approved for use in the U.S.
