Warning for patients who take vitamin supplements

November 18, 2009 Researchers in Norway found that patients who combined folic acid with Vitamin B supplements were more likely to develop cancer.

Lung cancer rates were 25 percent higher among people who took the supplements compared with the general population.

The study raises questions about the benefits of fortifying foods with folic acid.

Vitamin B is critical for pregnant women to prevent birth defects.

The research appears in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
