Group holds job forum for veterans

November 30, 2009 (CHICAGO) A group called Helmets to Hardhats held a veterans job resource forum in the western suburbs on Monday.

Congressman Peter Roskam and Teamster Local 786 president Michael Yauger welcomed veterans to the forum at DeVry University in Addison.

Representatives from Helmets to Hardhats helped the veterans register for its national program which connects returning soldiers with construction jobs.

"We're trying to bring together veterans who have had a background and professional experience, or other sophisticated training, and bringing that together with employers who need folks with high skills and a great work ethic," said Peter Roskam, (R) 6th Congressional District.

"It's a good time to take these young people and convert them back into the military, and from the military back into their civilian skills, transition them so that they can have a bite of the American apple and a piece of the American dream," said Michael Yauger, Teamsters Local 786 president.
