Man arrested in road-rage murder case

Police say a man has been arrested in a road rage murder on the Far South Side in September.Mikel Pernell, 30, of South Holland, Ill., was charged with one count of first-degree murder after a three-month investigation.

On September 18 around 11 a.m., police say the 38-year-old victim and a passenger were driving on the 10500-block of S. Torrence Ave. when the victim cut off Pernell's vehicle. Police say a verbal altercation ensued, and Pernell pulled out a handgun and fired at the victim's vehicle. The bullet went through the windshield and struck the victim in the head. Pernell fled the scene in his vehicle. The victim was transported to Trinity Hospital where he died.

Pernell was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon on the South Side.
