Analysis finds soy baby formula is probably safe

December 18, 2009 At issue was whether plant estrogens within soy formula might interfere with a child's hormones causing development problems. While there was no evidence of harm, experts say soy does have biological effects, so parents should keep that in mind.

Many parents switch to soy formula hoping it will be easier on babies tummies.

Pediatricians say the switch is often unnecessary and they still recommend breast feeding above all else.

Experts from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and the National Toxicology Program conducted the research.
