New immune system gene linked to childhood asthma

Genetic researchers have identified a new immune system gene that can be linked tomoderate-to-severe childhood asthma. Identifying the gene's specific mutations could lead to new targets in the treatment of the widespread illness.

Researchers caution that identifying the gene is likely just a single piece of a very complex puzzle in the search for a cure.

The findings are being reported in the January 7th issue of The New England Journal of Medicine.
