Astronaut surgeon speaks about being in space

December 27, 2009 (CHICAGO) Satcher is the first orthopedic surgeon to have blasted off into space. He spent 11 days conducting repairs on the space station last month.

The doctor told parishioners about the impact traveling to space had on him personally.

"To say that this was a fantastic and remarkable journey does not do justice to the breadth, diversity and depth of emotions and thoughts that were provoked in me by the experience," Satcher said.

Satcher told his audience as he counted down to lift off, he felt like he was doing what he was meant to do.

He went on to say his faith overpowered any fear he may have had in those last 15 seconds before the shuttle took flight.
