Tuesday, January 5 is the deadline for Illinois residents to register to vote in the February 2nd primary election. It's the earliest in state history.

To register you need to be 18 years old and a resident of your precinct at least 30 days prior to election day.

The Chicago Board of Elections is holding special hours on Tuesday night to accommodate last-minute filers.

Chicago and suburban Cook County residents can drop off or fill out registration forms through midnight at the Cook County administration building located at 69 West Washington in Chicago or at Chicago City Hall on North LaSalle Street.

Voters who miss Tuesday's deadline will need to register during the grace period which runs through January 26th.
