Chicago to host 2010 Navy Week

The U.S. Navy has chosen Chicago for its Navy Week celebration from August 7-15, 2010. The Navy holds about 20 of these weeklong celebrations a year in communities across the country. Officials said it gives area residents an opportunity to meet sailors and learn about military service.

Navy Week will conclude with the Blue Angels performance at the Chicago Air and Water Show, which is the 14 and 15 of August.

A wide variety of events are scheduled during each Navy Week, including:

  • Engagement with local corporate, civic and government leaders
  • Navy Band musical performances
  • Dive demonstrations in local aquariums
  • Visits to area schools
  • and community service projects and events with local sports franchises, to name only a few.

    That cities selected to host a Navy Week in 2010 are Tampa; Phoenix; Charleston, S.C.; San Antonio, Texas; Des Moines, Iowa; Kansas City; Birmingham, Ala.; Spokane, Wash.; Little Rock, Ark.; Milwaukee, Wisc.; Boston; Minneapolis; Chicago; Boise, Idaho; Baltimore; Cleveland; St. Louis; Salt Lake City; Atlanta; and Dallas.
