St. John's Wort is a supplement known as an herbal anti-depressant. Now, new research finds it may also help ease menopausal hot flashes. The study in the journal Menopause claims that women taking the herb for eight weeks saw a greater reduction in daily hot flashes. The herb also appeared to lessen the duration and severity of the hot flashes.

St. John's Wort contains estrogen like plant compounds. Researchers say it is possible these compounds are the reason women sense some relief. But they say further research is needed to confirm the results.
