Gov. Pat Quinn often displays a Super 8 Motel card to show that he is frugal. But it turns out, that card was discontinued years ago.ABC7 Chicago media partner the Daily Herald reports the Wyndham Hotel Group, which owns Super 8, stopped accepting the cards in 2004.

Quinn's office says the card symbolizes the governor's frugality and says he stayed at three Super 8 motels in the past year.

An Associated Press review of state records shows that, as lieutenant governor, Quinn stayed at Super 8 motels when travelling and routinely paid for his own food.

Quinn say he is proud to be frugal, and considers Super 8 a move up from his previous choice, Motel 6.
