Construction may start on Tri-State/I-57 connection

It appears construction on the long-anticipated interchange between the Tri-State Tollway and I-57 could begin as soon as this summer. Those two highways intersect near south suburban Markham. But they do not connect.

The project did not get federal stimulus funding. But the project is still moving forward.

This is one of the few spots in the country where two interstate highways cross but do not connect.

The Illinois Toll Highway Authority says the project will cost $580 million. Officials say it will relieve traffic on many streets in the area.
