Far northwest suburb may disband police department

Village trustees in far northwest suburban Hainesville are expected to decide Tuesday if the police department should be shut down in favor of contracting for patrol service.

The village covers 3 square miles and its police department is just two years old. However, officials say contracting services would be less expensive than maintaining the department.

Neighboring Grayslake and the Lake County Sheriff's office have presented three-year contract proposals to patrol the community.
