Huge electric bills lead to pot bust

Police say an enormous electric bill lead them to a major illegal drug operation in Gary, Indiana.

Suspicions were raised when the electric company found that one house had bills averaging 2,500 kilowatts per hour for the past 4 months. That's the equivalent of running 2500 air conditioning units.

Police say an elaborate irrigation and lighting system used to grow nearly 500 marijuana plants was the reason. Federal agents found the system in a back room and basement.

Three men were arrested and they will appear in court Friday.
