Chicago to ask vendors to renegotiate contracts

April 19, 2010 (CHICAGO)

It was one of several measures Mayor Daley announced Monday. He hopes vendors understand that the bad economy demands that the city take steps to cut spending.

"This is a good thing, this is a good concept. We're trying to keep government going. That's what you're trying to do. We don't have a well here with money sitting here. So that is the issue. We're trying to keep contracts going and everything else and them getting paid," said Daley.

Other cuts include a pilot program to reduce janitorial services at City Hall and locking in a lower price for natural gas.
