An Illinois Senate committee voted down a proposal that would have cut the school week to four days. The plan's sponsor believed the plan would've saved districts money on fuel and energy costs.

Opponents say reducing the school week to just four days would be too much of a burden on working parents.

The Senate committee voted 11-2 to reject the plan.
